MENDHAR, Apr 19: Baloni village in Mankote block of district Poonch has been facing worst kind of neglect from all the quarters. Be it road connectivity, Medical facility or provision of drinking water facility, the villagers have access to none.
Located hardly 15kms from Tehasil headquarters, there is no proper road connectivity to the village and the villagers are fraught with several problems, including daily struggle for water. An open nullah is the only sources of water for the 800-odd villagers. With the rise in day temperature, the only source of water is a nullah, located near the village.
Consumption of the untreated water from the nullah has led to outbreak of waterborne diseases. Moreover, adding to their woes is absence of health facilities. The villagers either depend on traditional medication or carry the patients to the nearest hospital on their own.
Sarpanch Naseem Akhther said that 500 families of Gujjars were staying there in stone age. “There is no proper road connectivity and many patients died as they could not be taken to hospitals in time during emergencies” he said.
He sought up-gradation of the Government High School in the village so that the children could continue their further studies. He said that Government is laying emphasis on development, their village should not be excluded from it.
