Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, May 3: Lajwanti Medical Trust (LMT), Jammu through its Institute of Obstetrics & Gynaecology has planned to organize a yearly programme of education of masses about risk factors in female cancer, their prevention and early detection through mass screening programme.
The institution will organize 20-30 cancer screening camps in inaccessible areas of Jammu region during the current year to detect and treat on spot the suspicious cases likely to develop cancer. The pre invasive or early detected cancer will be treated in their hospital while cases of advance stage will be assisted through social workers hired by the institution for facilitation of their treatment in tertiary care public institutions.
To overcome the worrying issue of declining work force in cancer care, a model of training has been developed by the institution. The overarching goal of these programmes is to produce reasonably self-sufficient individuals who are able to cope with local oncology problems.
Under the aegis of Jammu AGOI chapter and in scientific collaboration with medical institutions and other health care institutions of Jammu, the institution is organizing a CME cum workshop on Gynaecological and Surgical malignancies on May 8 in Jammu Club, Jammu. The programme includes discussion about the malignancies of the breast, female genital organs and GIT malignancies.
In the month of September 2016, the institution will organize a Globathon Walk in Jammu to apprise the community about risk factors for cancer and awareness strategies to prevent the disease.
Another skill development course is proposed to be conducted in the month of November this year.
