LMD Samba imposes fine of Rs 75000 on stationery shops

SAMBA, Mar 14: Continuing its efforts to protect gullible consumers from unfair trade practices adopted by schools and stationery shops, Legal Metrology Department realised a fine of Rs 75000 from such defaulters in district Samba during an inspection today.
The inspection was conducted on the directions of Deputy Commissioner, Samba, Rohit Khajuria.
The team conducted surprise raids on various stationery shops in district Samba and in the drive booked various traders for selling uniforms and other stationery items without mandatory declarations and violating the Legal Metrology Act .
Assistant Controller LMD, Samba Rajesh Heera has slapped a fine of Rs 75000 on three traders after taking undertaking that they will sell the stationery items as per the provisions of Legal Metrology Act and not to indulge in such type of anti-consumer practices again.
The Assistant Controller further appealed to the parents and guardians that in case of any complaint regarding the unfair trade practices adopted by any trader, approach to the office of Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Samba for immediate redressal of their grievances.
