LMD imposes Rs 73500 fine on defaulters

Samba, July 19: Continuing with their efforts to ensure mandatory declarations are printed on all the pre-packed goods for the information of consumers, the department of Legal Metrology, Samba fined seven traders for violating the provisions of the law enforced for the purpose.
According to Rajesh Heera Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Samba all the pre-packed goods which are being packed in absence of consumers must declare Net Weight, Max Retail Price along with packing date, address of the packer/importer and consumer care number. He said that on inspection of various hardware stores, provisional stores, sweet shops, ration depots etc at Samba, Bari Brahmana and adjoining areas, it was observed that the packages of crockery items, Rice bags, flour bags etc were offered for sale to the consumer without declaring all these declarations.
Some of the deceptive packages were seized by the inspector Legal Metrology Samba Mohsin khateeb from the defaulter traders.
After hearing the traders, Assistant Controller recovered a fine amounting Rs 73500 as compostition sum with the assurance that the offences will not be repeated in future,failing which their cases will be sent to the court of law for strigent action.
