JAMMU, Apr 25: Legal Metrology Department today imposed Rs one lakh fine on four mills for short weightment and issued notice to another.
An official spokesman said that in response to various complaints received by Secretary Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Satish Nehru regarding short supply of PDS ration to the dealers by flour mills, a team of officers of Legal Metrology Department led by Director CAPD GS Chib raided six flour mills in Gangyal and Bari Brahmana engaged in grinding and supply of atta to the ration dealers for public distribution.
On finding short weightment, the Legal Metrology Department booked four flour mills and imposed fine of Rs 25,000 on each. These are Janta Flour Mill, National Flour Mill, Durga Flour Mill and Om Flour Mill.
Mahajan Flour Mill, Gangyal was issued notice to showcause why his case may not be sent to the court of law for further legal proceedings.
