LMD imposes fine of Rs 40000 on cement factory

KATHUA, Oct 12: Legal Metrology Department Kathua today slapped a fine of Rs 40000 on a cement factory in industrial area Kathua for violation of Legal Metrology Act and Rules.
The enforcement team headed by Assistant Controller, LMD Kathua Jaideep Singh Sambyal along with LMD officers of Kathua and Dayalachak under the close supervision of Joint Controller LMD Jammu V.S Sambyal conducted surprise inspection in a cement factory and found that some cement bags were less in weight by 600-700 grams against the net quantity of 50 kg. On detecting short weight the team seized two batches containing 770 bags of cement. Further these two batches of cement bags lacks mandatory declarations like M.R.P was not legible properly.
Further the management of the factory applied for the composition on the spot with the undertaking that these two rejected batches of cement bags shall be refilled with exact net quantity of cement as declared on the bags and not to repeat same offence in future.
The Assistant Controller appealed to consumers to remain vigilant and safeguard their interest as guaranteed under J&K Consumer Protection Act 1987 by registering their genuine complaints with the department.
