LMD imposes fine on Best Price, school uniform seller

JAMMU, Dec 16: Acting swiftly on the two different complaints of consumers, the Department of Legal Metrology took action on the management of the companies for different violations by imposing fines.
According to Manoj Prabhakar Deputy Controller Legal Metrology Enforcement, a complainant Vikas from Rehari was overcharged on the purchase of Cadbury nuts by Best Price. The pre-packed commodity of chocolate was marked with MRP of Rs 125 inclusive of all taxes and some offer of reduced price was also displayed at Best Price, but as an aware consumer, the complainant checked the bill carefully and was surprised to know that he was charged over and above MRP on the pretext of tax.
Controller Legal Metrology RK Katoch took cognizance of the complaint and the department served the notice to the management of Wall-Mart India Private Limited Akhnoor road, which pleaded guilty and accordingly a fine of Rs 50,000 was imposed and recovered.
In another complaint by parents against uniform supplier, the department imposed fine of Rs 40,000 on the vendor M/s Lallypore from Delhi for selling school uniform without mentioning rates and for restricting parents to purchase all the items whether they need it or not.
