LM clears names for J&K HC Judges

JAMMU, Apr 17: Union Ministry of Law and Justice today cleared the names recommended by the Supreme Court collegium for appointment as Judges of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court and forwarded the file to President of India for taking final call.
Sources told EXCELSIOR that Union Law Ministry minutely examined the file containing details of consultations held by Chief Justice of India with his colleagues in the collegium and recommended all the three names to the President for approval.
As already reported exclusively by EXCELSIOR, M K Hanjura, Sanjay Kumar Gupta and S K Shukla have been cleared for appointment as Judges of the J&K High Court.
Hanjura is presently serving as Presiding Officer of Food Safety Appellate Tribunal while as Sanjay Kumar Gupta is serving as Principal District and Session Judge Jammu. Advocate S K Shukla has been practicing in the High Court for the past several years.
Following approval of President and subsequent appointment of Hanjura, Sanjay Gupta and Shukla the strength of High Court Judges in J&K would increase to 12 against sanctioned strength of 17 as presently there are only nine Judges including the Chief Justice.
