*Family, locals stage protest

JAMMU, Jul 11: A lineman of Power Development Department (PDD) died due to electrocution near Camp Road here today.
As per police sources, a lineman namely Darshan Lal (43), son of Om Parkash, a resident of Govind Nagar, Camp Gole Gujaral, was repairing a technical fault on the LT Line to restore the snapped power supply.
The power supply was shut at a time when he was repairing the fault but restored by two men ‘unaware’ (as claimed) that he was on the pole, sources said, adding that one employee of Jammu Development Authority (JDA) identified as Bua Ditta Sharma has been detained for questioning.
After conducting post-mortem, the body of the deceased was handed over to family members for last rites.
Inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC have been initiated by Pouni Chak Police.
Meanwhile, family members of the deceased along with locals held protest and demanded immediate action against the person(s) responsible for the death of Darshan Lal. The protesting locals also demanded appropriate compensation to the bereaved family.
After getting information, police team rushed to the spot. Officers of PDD also reached the spot and assured all possible help from the department to the deceased person’s family.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed.
