Lifting security cover of defeated candidates illogical: Tarigami

SRINAGAR, Dec 25: Taking strong exception to the withdrawal of security cover to candidates who could not win the recently-held Assembly elections, CPI (M) State secretary and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today said the administrative decision reflects non-application of mind and must be reviewed immediately.
In a statement issued here, Mr Tarigami said it is illogical and bereft of any wisdom that within a few days after the results of elections were announced, the security cover of these candidates has been withdrawn without considering their safety.
“By withdrawing the security cover of candidates who could not win the Assembly elections, the administration has put their lives in peril.
“All these candidates whose security cover has been withdrawn have been put to grave security risk,” he said, adding that political activists put their lives in grave risk by contesting the elections in trouble-torn Valley and the administration should have taken any such decision only after reviewing their threat perception.
Mr Tarigami demanded that the order be rescinded and all vulnerable political activists be provided the stipulated security cover without any delay.
