JAMMU, Mar 13: Principal Sessions Judge Samba, Inder Singh today awarded rigorous life-imprisonment and fine of Rs one lakh to Sanjay Singh, who was facing trial in double murder case.
According to the police case, on August 1, 2008 Sanjay Singh opened fire on Sunil Singh and Jugal Kishore over an old enmity as result of which both got serious injured and later succumbed to injuries.
After hearing Special Public Prosecutor Ashok Parihar for the State whereas Advocate Rajesh Kotwal for the accused person, Principal Sessions Judge observed, “offences of like nature are on rise in our society and the perpetrators of such crimes need to be dealt with sternly but the present case does not fall in the category of the rarest of the rare”, adding “there is no evidence that the accused had been involved in any criminal cases previously and the accused had committed the murder of the deceased on account of suspicion that his brother was murder by the Sunil Singh and others”.
The Court further observed, “the accused is a man of 45 years and has been languishing in jail since 2008”. Keeping in view all aspects, the court awarded rigorous life-imprisonment and fine of Rs one lakh to Sanjay Singh, son of Sukh Dev Singh of Mandi Kotli, Samba under Section 302 RPC. The accused was further sentenced to imprisonment of 2 years and fine of Rs 10000 under Section 3/25 Arms Act.
“If the fine is recovered the same shall be paid to the families of the deceased equally”, the court directed.
