Life-imprisonment awarded in advocate’s murder

JAMMU, Dec 22: Principal Sessions Judge Jammu, R S Jain today awarded life-imprisonment to Raj Singh, son of Khajur Singh of Toph Manhasan, who was facing trial in murder of Advocate Karan Singh. The murder was committed over a land dispute.
After hearing both the sides and going through the statements of the witnesses, Principal Sessions Judge observed, “imprisonment for life shall be adequate sentence in the present case”.
Accordingly, accused Raj Singh was sentenced to undergo imprisonment for life and a fine of Rs 6000 was imposed for offence under Section 302 RPC.  “In default of payment of fine, the accused shall undergo imprisonment for six months”, the court said.
The accused was also sentenced to three years imprisonment and fine of Rs 1000 under Section 3/25 Arms Act. In default of payment of fine, the accused shall further undergo imprisonment for one month.
Both the sentences shall, however, run concurrently, the court clarified.
