Life crippled in parts of south Kashmir’s Pulwama

SRINAGAR, MAY 28 (UNI):- A security personnel keeping vigil at Safakadal where concertina wire were laid to close the road in down town as Curfew was imposed along with areas falling under seven police stations in Srinagar and majority towns in the Kashmir valley, where separatists had called for two-day strike begins Sunday in protest against the killing of top Hizbul Mujhideen commander Sabzar Bhat and others in two separate encounter with Security forces on Saturday.UNI PHOTO-33U

 

SRINAGAR:  Life was today crippled in parts of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, where eight security force personnel were martyred and three foreign militants killed in an 18-hour-long encounter which ensued after a fidayeen attack on District Police Line (DPL) yesterday.

     Official sources said that there were no restrictions in any parts of Pulwama district though security forces remained deployed in strength to maintain law and order.

      Train service between Srinagar-to Banihal in Jammu region, via south Kashmir, was running normally.

     However, shops and business establishments, which remain open on Sundays, were closed and traffic was off the road in parts of the district, including main town Pulwama,  Kakpora, Murran, Tahab and Gongoo.       Meanwhile, mobile internet service of all cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), remained suspended since yesterday morning in the district as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of any rumours.

      Eight security force personnel, four each of police and CRPF, and three militants were killed and five other jawans injured in an 18-hour long encounter which triggered after a fidayeen attack on DPL, Pulwama. Militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) claimed responsibility for the attack. (AGENCIE
