JAMMU, Jan 19: LIC employees under the banner of Northern Zone Insurance Employees’ Association led by Divisional Secretary, Pawan Gupta today observed 65th Nationalised Day of LIC at Jammu.
On this occasion, LIC employees organised a rally with flags, banners and placards indicating achievements of LIC; consisting of large number of members of the Association including Joint Secretary, Romesh Chand, Treasurer, Raj Kumar Sharma, vice president-Dinesh Kumar Sharma, Rajesh Kumar, Alkiya Sharma, Priya Sharma, Ruchi Jamwal, Nanak Chand, Shiban Raina, Kishore Lal, Raj Kumar and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Pawan Gupta congratulated all the members on this occasion of 65th anniversary of Nationalisation Day of LIC and said that after a prolonged struggle of All India Insurance Employees’ Association, the Government of India nationalised the life insurance business in India by an Ordinance issued on January 19, 1956. Then on June 19, 1956, LIC Act 1956 was passed in the Parliament and ultimately LIC of India came into existence on 1st September 1956.
LIC had 5 zonal offices, 33 divisional offices and 212 branch offices, apart from its corporate office in the year 1956 and today LIC functions with 2048 fully computerized branch offices, 113 divisional offices, 8 zonal offices, 1381 satallite offices and the Corporate office.
LIC today has 30 crore individual policy holders and 11crore policyholders in group schemes. It has 31 lakh crore of assets and it has played a big role in national development by investing in social and infrastructure programmes of the Government. Due to hard and honest work of LIC employees, it has earned a considerable goodwill among people of India; and thus it has reached to the top as far its market share, business, and contribution in national economy in concerned. While strongly opposing proposed IPO in LIC, employees on this occasion resolved to fight tooth and nail to protect LIC and against any move of its privatisation.
