LG, political parties condemn killing of JKP Sub Inspector

JAMMU, Sept 12: The Lieutenant Governor of J&K Manoj Sinha and several political parties have condemned the brutal killing of Arshid Ahmad, Sub Inspector (SI) of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), at Khanyar locality in Srinagar. The probationary police officer was shot dead this afternoon by a militant from point-blank range.
“I strongly condemn brutal killing of our brave heart Police Officer Arshad Ashraf Mir by terrorists. This is a handiwork of enemies of humanity & peace. His supreme sacrifice won’t go in vain, terrorists will be punished for the act. Heartfelt condolences to the martyr’s family,” the LG said on its Twitter handle.
Condemning the killing of the police officer, J&K BJP spokesman Altaf Thakur termed the attack a cowardly act. In a statement, Thakur said the militants “feeling frustrated” are now targeting unarmed policemen. He expressed solidarity with the family and prayed for peace to the departed soul. Thakur urged police to take help from the viral CCTV footage of the attack and punish the culprits.
“Strongly condemn the killing of SI Arshid Ahmad in a dastardly act of senseless violence. We express our sincere condolences to the family members of the fearless policeman killed in the line of duty. May his soul rest in peace and the family find strength to face the days ahead,” the National Conference (NC) said on Twitter.
Member Parliament and NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah and vice president Omar Abdullah also condemned the killing of the young police officer. While condemning the incident, Dr Farooq said, “I mince no words to condemn the despicable act of violence, where in an on-duty police young police officer has been killed. I express my deepest sympathies with the bereaved family of the slain cop and pray for eternal peace to the departed soul,” he said.
In his condemnation of the incident, Omar Abdullah said, “Sorry to hear about the killing of Sub-inspector Arshid Mir in a dastardly act in the heart of the Srinagar city. Another young life with so much of promise, another grieving family. May Almighty Allah grant Arshid place in Jannat,” he said.
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti offered condolences to the police officer’s family. “Saddened to hear about the death of J&K Police Sub Inspector Arshid Ahmed killed by militants at Khanyar today. May his soul rest in peace & condolences to his family,” she said.
Strongly condemning the killing of the JKP officer, Apni Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Sunday termed the incident extremely barbaric that can yield nothing except for more miseries to the people. Violence in any of its forms and manifestations is unacceptable to any civilized society and the same should be condemned by one and all,” he remarked. He termed the incident as highly deplorable and demanded that the perpetrators of this incident should be identified and brought to justice.
Terming the killing of the police officer as very unfortunate, mindless and inhuman, the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president Ghulam Ahmad Mir, in a statement, demanded stern action against the killers of slain SI. Such incidents are bound to create more fear, besides adding miseries to people, JKPCC president rued and expressed serious concern over the deteriorating security situation. He said the JKPCC conveyed deepest condolences to bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the martyred officer.
The People’s Conference (PC) also condemned the killing. “We unreservedly condemn the dastardly and cowardly militant attack on the police officer SI Arshid Ahmad. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them in this hour of grief,” PC spokesperson Adnan Ashraf Mir said in a statement.
PC chairman Sajad Lone said the killing has made an addition to the “army of orphans” in the Valley. “SI Arshid Ahmed martyred. May Allah grant him Jannat. The terrorists have yet again made an addition to the army of orphans,” Lone said.
