LG Ladakh assesses progress of ongoing projects from Deptt Secys

LEH, Sept 9: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier BD Mishra (Retd) convened a meeting at Raj Niwas the other day to assess the progress of the ongoing projects and discuss various issues with Departmental Secretaries and Heads of Departments.
During the meeting, several important topics were addressed. These included appointments of Directors for Departments in Leh and Kargil, detachment of Government school teachers, preparation for The Himalayan Film Festival 2023, plans for a fashion show at Umling La, concerns over the shortage of drinking water in the Taisuru block, and delays in procuring CT Scan and MRI machines for District Hospital, Kargil.
Advancements in establishing a 50-bedded Medical College, Engineering College, and Government Degree College at Sankoo, progress of Sindhu Central University in Ladakh, updates on the Ladakh Selection Post 2022 results by Staff Selection Commission, recruitment rules for gazetted posts shared with UPSC by the UT Administration, status of Panchayati Raj Institutions elections in Ladakh, resumption of helicopter services in Ladakh, necessity for dedicated Liaison Officers for flight operations from Chandigarh to Leh/Nubra and airlifting Ladakhi citizens in winter were the other issues discussed by the LG Ladakh.
He also held threadbare discussion on staff rationalization at Ladakh Bhawan in Delhi, expansion plans for Thoise Airfield in Nubra, boundary adjustments for Karakoram /Changthang Wildlife Sanctuaries, progress on Jal Jeevan Mission for rural household drinking water, establishment of check posts in Ladakh’s border areas, ongoing cleanliness drive in various parts of Ladakh, initiatives to achieve zero malnutrition in Ladakh under Poshan 2.0, launch of the Sarphel Laskhungs Podcast by the Department of Information and Public Relations among other issues.
The Lieutenant Governor emphasized the urgent need to procure CT scan and MRI machines for District Hospital, Kargil, to improve patient care. He instructed the Director of Health Services to expedite the procurement process and pledged to raise the matter with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Furthermore, he directed the Secretary of Public Health Engineering to address drinking water issues and intervene as necessary to ensure rural households have access to clean drinking water.
In attendance at the meeting were key officials and advisors, including Dr Pawan Kotwal, Sanjeev Khirwar, Dr SD Singh Jamwal, Padma Angmo, Mehboob Ali Khan, and various Secretaries and Heads of Departments.
