LeT militant killed in Shopian

Srinagar, May 28: A local militant was killed in an encounter between security forces and militants in the orchards of Ganopora Arshipora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian today while as militants fired at a joint team of security forces in Warpora area of Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla after which they escaped from the house forcing the security forces to launch searches in the area.
Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 44 RR and CRPF launched an operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.
He said that as security forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
He said that during the exchange of fire one local militant was killed. He has been identified as Aetimad Ahmad from Ayend, Shopian.
He said that one AK 47 besides other ammunition was recovered from the possession of slain militant.
As per police records, the slain militant was active since 26/03/2021 and was involved in several cases.”
Another gun battle is on at Warpora area of Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district after militants attacked the joint party of security forces. Police said that militants managed to escape to the nearby fields after which massive search operation was on in the area.
“Areas nearby Warpora have also been cordoned by the joint forces comprising of Army, SOG JKP, and CRPF,” police said.
