Leh verdict

With the results for the 26 seats of 6th Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Leh elections declared where the main contestants, as usual, were the BJP and the Congress parties, Congress got 9 or two more than the last time and the BJP losing as many this time by bagging 15 seats only. Two seats were won by independent candidates. Four additional seats of councillors are nominated by the Government making it a total of 30 seats. Since in democracy, the voters are the authority to decide about who should represent them in order to fulfil the agenda set to accomplish as promised at the time of campaigning and the election process by the respective candidates, it is now imperative to look not only business like by the elected councillors in taking forward economically and from the required angles of development the entire area of Leh, but prove it on the ground too.
The UT of Ladakh holds a unique position in the country from geographical angle, strategic angle and from the sensitive angle bordering our belligerent neighbour China where this country is facing a longest ever stand-off with that country at the eastern Ladakh. In other words, the elected members are, under the given circumstances, required to work as a team – fully committed to progress and development of the region, now that these elections were held in a new political and constitutional landscape of being an important Union Territory.
