Srinagar, June 3: Stayed back in the worst years of militancy in one of the most vulnerable areas of Kashmir, the old city, where the legendary Tirath Ram and Sons have been doing business for last more than 100 years today opened their all women retail showroom in downtown’s Maharaj Gunj.
While the move of shifting is aimed at helping the downtrodden lot of the society; it is also one of the unique showrooms-at least in downtown-where the clothing for ladies will be available and the store will be all manned by ladies.
The showroom named as ‘Soan Pannun Waan’ (Our very own store), was inaugurated Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who termed the move as a good omen and a sign which will project an inclusiveness of the Kashmiri society.
Mirwaiz, who was especially invited for the inauguration ceremony said that it was a good omen that people like Tirath Ram and Sons were expanding their business in Kashmir and that while the move will not only strengthen the business community in Kashmir, it will also sent out a good message.
“I on the behalf of Kashmiri community extend best wishes to Tirath Ram and Sons as their new generation is carrying their venture to the new heights,” he said, while adding that Tirath Ram and Sons have got all the support of the people of downtown.
He said that an impression is being given out that there is not much space available for the minorities, however, the move kick-started by Tirath Ram and Sons, Mirwaiz said will set a different precedence.
“We have been associated with the wholesale so far, and now we have decided to do a shift from wholesale to the retail which is all aimed at helping the downtrodden lot of the society-we are even bringing out a scheme for Vardan (clothing for the bride) soon. We are tying up with banks to get clothes for brides of downtrodden sections on EMI,” said Vikram Malhotra of Tirath Ram and Sons.
He said that they at Tirath Ram and Sons were especially aiming at giving back to society “as the inflation is going up with every passing day, and amid this we will be providing the clothing on semi-wholesale price, which is going to be all low in comparison to the market,” he added.
