Srinagar, May 20: Legal Metrology officials today slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 on the liquor sellers in Srinagar or overcharging boozers of the Valley.
An official statement said that after persistent complaints lodged by boozers of the Valley that liquor shops of the city are indulging in substantial over-charging on the bottles of wine and beer, the field executives of Legal Metrology Department under the supervision of Deputy Controller raided the premises of the liquor shops.
“The boozers at the liquor shops waiting for their turn complained that they were routinely over-charged by them. They also complained that the liquor shops do not give them the receipt despite their insistence,” the statement said.
The statement said one person who has been charged Rs.3700 produced the wine bottle before the inspecting team to show that the MRP on the bottle was only Rs.3300 and a beer bottle of 500ml priced at Rs.65 was being sold at Rs.90.
“The Inspector Legal Metrology Circle-I registered the challan cases against the liquor shops for over-charging on the liquor bottles. The management of the liquor shops gave different reasons for the over-charging,” he said.
