Legal Metrology Deptt conducts awareness camps for students, traders

KATHUA, May 27: In order to nurture school going children about their rights and duties as a consumers in far-flung areas, Department of Legal Metrology conducted awareness camp at Government Higher Secondary School, Sheetal Nagar, tehsil Basohli.
The camp was conducted by Joint Controller Amar Singh, Deputy Controller (Consumer Protection), Manoj Prabhakar, Deputy Controller SS Lab, MA Mughal and Asstt Controller Kathua Ajay Verma
The team apprised the students of class 9th and 10th about the role of department in protecting the interest of consumers. The children were made aware about the precautions they have to take while purchasing the goods from the markets and how to see whether the Weights & Measuring instruments used by the shopkeepers are accurate one.
The students were made alert to purchase only BIS marked or ISI marked goods from the market to ensure quality and to look for mandatory declarations like MRP, PKD, net weight, address of the manufacturer and consumer helpline number on all the pre-packed commodities offered and displayed by the traders for sale and importantly the address of authorities to complaint in case of any malpractices or case of cheating is observed by any consumer.
The management of school was also informed to form consumer clubs in school by making group of 5 to 10 students so that regular interactions is made among the students.
The team also visited Loang town in Tehsil Bani and also organized a camp for traders to make them aware about purchase of quality goods and use of only Standard Weighing equipments in making transactions.
The team also booked one petrol pump and penalized under the relevant provisions of law for giving less delivery of petrol to the consumers.
