JAMMU, Nov 26: Acting on the complaint of a consumer namely Bhagwan Dass from Sainik Colony , a team of officers of Legal Metrology today conducted inspection of one of the dealers of Kajaria company at Channi Himmat & booked the company under the relevant law for not marking mandatory declaration for the information of consumers.
According to Manoj Prabhakar,  Deputy Controller Legal Metrology Consumer Protection, the  consumer purchased floor tiles costing Rs 79000. While giving finishing touch he found the discrepencies in shade & immediately brought the matter to the notice of the local representative of the company who gave assurance of the compensation.
Later, on the frequent follow up the said consumer could not get any relief & subsequently he lodged a complaint with the department for sale of defective goods & unfair trade practice under Consumer Protection Act 1987 along with submission that the mandatory declaration on the label regarding MRP & others are not legible .
The matter was taken up with the local reprentative of the company who in turn did not respond actively & slept over the complaint. Accordingly the department under relevant law conducted inspection and  found that the mandatory declarations on the packaged tiles were either missing or were not legible. All such deceptive packages were seized & sale of such packages of tiles was stopped till rectification is done by the company.  A case was registered against the management of the company for further proceedings in the appropriate court of law.
