‘Oppn leaders faced cruelty on behest of Cong, NC’

JAMMU, June 26: Horrible reminiscences of the past were shared by many prominent leaders who were jailed during the 1975 Emergency imposed by then Prime Minister (Tallest Congress leader of that time) Indira Gandhi in the programme which was convened by senior BJP leader Chander Mohan Sharma at BJP headquarters Trikuta Nagar here today.
Former BJP State president & former Dy. CM, Dr. Nirmal Singh, former State president, Ashok Khajuria, former State president and MP (Rajya Sabha), Shamsher Singh Manhas, former State president & MP (Lok Sabha), Jugal Kishore Sharma, former Dy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta, former MLC Adv. Ramesh Arora, former MLC Ch. Vikram Randhawa and many prominent leaders who were jailed during Emergency 1975, participated in the programme.

Dr. Nirmal Singh, Ashok Khajuria, Kavinder Gupta, Onkar Seth, Ashok Gupta and Satpal Singh Rathore addressed the programme.
Leaders paid tribute to all the martyred jawans. The tributes were also paid to Jai Prakash Narayan, Nana Ji Deshmukh, Atal Behari Vajpayee and other great personalities. They said that, in J&K, political workers were tortured brutally by police on the order of then Chief Minister, Sheikh Abdullah. Many of the persons faced utmost cruelty on the behest of dictator Congress and NC governments at that time.
They further said that we all are committed to work for strengthening democracy. They said that it is matter of pride the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi who is also one of the emergency sufferer as MISA detune has today, grown himself as a benchmark amongst all the democratic nations of the world. He at last complimented the participants for attending the function.
All the leaders also shared their experiences during the Emergency time and prayed that no such mockery of democracy should ever be made in the modern world just for the sake of retaining in power. They said that the Emergency imposed by Congress leader at that time could not be justified by anybody in any way and as a result Congress party faced historic defeat in the general elections after the period of Emergency.
Adv. Ramesh Arora presented a resolution demanding recognition of Jail sufferers of Emergency as “Crusaders of Democracy” (Loktanter Senani) and a committee was formed to take up the matter with the Government.
