Lead futures up on strong spot demand, overseas cues

NEW DELHI, May 3:  Lead futures prices today rose by 1.29 per cent to Rs 106.15 per kg on rising spot demand and positive cues from global markets.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, lead for delivery in May traded Rs 1.35, or 1.29 per cent higher at Rs 106.15 per kg, with a turnover of 3,150 lots.

The metal for delivery in June also rose by Rs 1.35, or 1.28 per cent, to Rs 107 per kg in a turnover of 126 lots.

Marketmen said besides strong domestic demand from battery-makers, a firm trend at the London Metal Exchange (LME) after the European Central Bank reduced interest rates to a record and US filings for unemployment benefit fell to a five-year low, boosting the outlook for demand, influenced lead prices at futures trade.

At the LME, lead climbed as much as 1.9 per cent to USD 1,977 per tonne. (PTI)
