UDHAMPUR, Jan 3: Latti Development Committee (LDC) has reiterated its demand of creating new hilly Assembly constituency for remote area of Latti-Dudu-Basantgarh in Udhampur district.
In a meeting of the Committee held at Latti town today under the chairmanship of Kasturi Lal Gupta (President/ Sarpanch)), the members strongly projected their demand of providing separate Assembly Constituency for two Sub Divisions of Dudu and Basantgarh and full fledged Tehsil, Latti. They pointed out that the people of this entire belt are demanding separate constituency from Ramnagar and Chenani as they have been facing discrimination since long. This is the very old demand of the people of these two Sub Divisions.
The speakers including about half a dozen Sarpanches and scores of Panches said that the population of these two sub divisions is more than 65000 but this entire remote belt had remained neglected by their respective representatives. This area is extreme mountainous corner of both Ramnagar and Chenani constituencies. Two DDCs hail from these two sub divisions in the district.
They further said that they had met the Delimitation Commission, former LG, Chief Secretary, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Chief Secretary and even the two Advisors in the past and strongly projected their demand. The development of this neglected area is only possible, if it gets separate Assembly constituency, they maintained.
Prominent among those who attended meeting included-Abdul Rashid Malik, Krishan Lal Gupta, Dev Raj, Raj Kumar, Khalid Hussain, Mohd Rafiq, Hans Raj and others.
