SRINAGAR, Oct 4: Amrit Malhotra, Chairman, Legislative Council, called on N N Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan here this evening.
Mr. Malhotra briefed the Governor about the important issues slated for discussion in the ongoing session of the State Legislature, which commenced on October 1, 2012.
The Governor and Mr. Malhotra also discussed various issues relating to the rapid socio-economic advancement of the State.
Meanwhile, delegation of the Pahari Speaking People met Mr Vohra and presented to him their demands.
The 9-member delegation led by Syed Mushtaq Ahmad Bukhari, Vice Chairman, Advisory Board for Development of Pahari Speaking People, comprised Rachpal Singh, Vice Chairman, Kissan Advisory Board; Mirza Abdul Rashid, former Minister; Ajaz Ahmad Jan and Ravinder Sharma, Legislators; Mushtaq Ahmad Lodhi, Bashir Ahmad Wani, Syed Abdul Salam Shah and Nazir Zindadil, Members of the State Advisory Board for Development of Pahari Speaking People.
The Governor, who has had several earlier meetings with groups led by Mr. Bukhari and is fully aware of the demand of the Pahari Speaking People for grant of Scheduled Tribe status, reviewed the current status of the matter with members of the delegation. The Governor assured Mr. Bukhari and his colleagues that the matter would be discussed further with Minister for Social Welfare to secure an early outcome.
