KARGIL, Jan 23: Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA), Kargil unit today highlighted the agendas of the core committee framed earlier on January 15, this year.
The agendas to be represented now in the High Power Committee by the President of LBA Kargil, Tsewang Norboo, are constitutional safeguard to UT of Ladakh under 6th Schedule of the Constitution to protect land, jobs, language, culture and tribal identity of the region, delimitation of geographical boundaries of districts in the UT of Ladakh, and provision of mandatory Ladakh Resident Certificates for all the Gazetted and Non-Gazetted jobs in the UT of Ladakh.
In a statement, the LBA Kargil has also claimed that people of Ladakh have/had never demanded full-fledged statehood for Ladakh.
“The demand of Ladakhis under the stewardship of His Eminence Kushok Bakula Rinpoche and veteran leaders of LBA was only separation from the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir and declaration of UT of Ladakh.
“We already have democracy and democratic representation in the UT Ladakh in the form of LAHDCs. Moreover, lack of sustainable revenue resources in the UT Ladakh may become a major hurdle to fulfil the demand of statehood,” read a press statement issued by LBA.
