KATHUA, Feb 23: A lawyer opened two rounds of firing in the air from his revolver in a clash that erupted over the land dispute at Kali Bari near here, today.
However, he was later overpowered by the rival group who seized his revolver and beat him with lathis, fractured his leg and inflicted injuries on his person.
The lawyer has been admitted in Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH) Kathua for treatment. Kathua police has registered a case under relevant sections of the law in this regard and arrested five persons.
Police is investigating the matter. It has also registered a case against the lawyer who is undergoing treatment in GMC Kathua.
As per reports, advocate Diwakar Sharma who owned a piece of land in Kali Bari area had taken a customer for sale of land in the area today. However, some members of Sikh community residing in the area objected to it saying that he had settled a sale deed with them and they will not allow the sale of the land to anyone as it belongs to them. The lawyer refuted saying that he will not sell the land to them at any cost.
This resulted into heated exchanges between Diwakar Sharma and the rival group and a clash ensued.
Agitated Sharma took out his revolver and fired two rounds in air to scare the rivals. However, the people overpowered him, snatched his revolver and beat him with lathis fracturing his leg and inflicting injuries on his person. He was admitted in the GMC Kathua for treatment. Sharma said that they also snatched his mobile phone.
Giving details, a senior police officer said that five persons have been arrested in this regard and case has also been registered against Sharma who is at present hospitalized. The officer said it is an old land dispute case and police is investigating the matter.
