Law-maker, others detained during protest over JNU row

SRINAGAR, Feb 17: Independent legislator and president of Awami Itehad Party (AIP) Abdul Rasheed Sheikh was detained along with several of his party workers when he attempted to march towards Lal Chowk during a protest against the slapping of sedition charges against former Delhi University professor, Syed Abdul Rehman Geelani.
Rasheed along with scores of his party workers took out a protest march from his Jawahar Nagar residence here and attempted to proceed towards Lal Chowk, the city centre. The protesters were shouting slogans in favour of the students who staged a pro-Afzal Guru event in Jawahar Lal Chowk Nehru University some days back.
Rasheed while condemning the slapping of sedition charges against the SAR Geelani and others said that Congress and BJP are trying to score political points over the ongoing row.
