RAMBAN, Feb 26: Two people were killed while two others were seriously injured when the vehicle they were travelling in was hit by a landslide near Sher-Bibi area in tehsil Banihal on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway here.
As per police sources, a van bearing registration number JKO3E-9203 was on its way to Srinagar from Jammu, when it was hit by a massive landslide near Sher-Bibi area in tehsil Banihal on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, resulting the vehicle fell into a deep gorge.
The body of the one of the deceased identified as Ghulam Qadir (85), son of Ghulam Mohammad, a resident of Verinag, was recovered whereas the body of the second person was still buried under the debris.
The injured identified as Sajad Ahmed, son of Ghulam Qadir and Javed Ahmed, son of Ghulam Din, both residents of Verinag, were shifted to SDH Banihal, where their condition was stated to be out of danger, when reports last came in.
Following the landslide, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was closed for the vehicular traffic till last reports were compiled.
