Landmark decision

Sir,
This has reference to the landmark decision of the Supreme Court of India on misuse of religion, caste and languages to gain votes in the elections. The judgement clearly termed misusing of religion, caste or languages comes under the clause of corruption. It has described the religious belief as a personal issue between the persona and his/her God.
In India, it has become a gimmick for political parties to exploite the religious sentiments of people during the elections. With the result, India is gradually getting polarised on religious and caste lines. Instead of binding people together, elections divide them. The societal fissures so created can pose challenges to unity and integrity of the country.
The politicians must realise the repurcussions before it is too late. The judgment must serve as a warning to these politicians not to use religion as a poll plank.
Religion or caste considerations may get them short term gains, but in long  run it may prove disastrous.
The Election Commission is urged to suggest necessary amendments for implementation of it and disqualification of candidates and parties misusing the religion.
Yours etc..
