Land minie victims are provided compensation by Centre: Saifullah

JAMMU:  Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Mir Saifullah today said that land mine victims are being provided compensation by the Union government.

Replying to a Calling Attention notice of MLA Ashwani Sharma in the Legislative Assembly here today, the Minister said that the land mine causalities are not covered under the existing ex-gratia compensation and these victims are covered under the guidelines/schemes of the Ministry of  Defense.

Referring the case of Mangat Ram, resident of Ranjitpur (Nandpur) Tehsil Bishnah, who died and six persons others were injured due to mine blast in Bishnah Constituency, the Minister said, “Under the scheme, the case of the land mine causalities are processed by the concerned district collector (Deputy Commissioner) and then forwarded to the state government which who in turn forward the same to the nearest sub-Area commander with recommendations to make the payment of compensation”.

However, he said an ex-gratia relief Rs 5,000 has been paid by the state government to each of the six injured of Bishnah Constituency through Tehsildar concerned, adding, “the case of deceased Mangat Ram was referred to the GOC-in-C Headquarter, Western Command for grant of ex-gratia relief as per guidelines issued by Ministry of Defense”.
