Srinagar, June 4: Government today said it is in the process of acquisition of land measuring 726 kanals and 18 marlas through J&K Housing Board for establishment of planned housing colonies.
In a written reply to a question of MLA Mubarak Gul in Lower House, the Minister Incharge Housing and Urban Development Department said the department has framed housing policy in the year 2004, which is in existence.
“However, to improve it, a committee has been constituted to draft a housing policy for the State on analogy of National Housing and Habitat Policy and Global Strategy for shelter of the United Nations,” said the Minister.
The Minister stated that Government is in the process of acquisition of land measuring 726 kanals and 18 marlas at village Ranbirgarh, Partapgarh Tehsil in District Srinagar through J&K Housing Board for establishment of planned housing colonies.
“SDA is also in the process of identifying new areas which will be developed for residential activities. Moreover, it is in the process of vertical expansion and has started two projects i.e. Gulposh and Shehjar which will cater to the housing problems in Srinagar city to a large extent,” said the Minister.
SDA has developed only one colony in Eidgah Constituency namely EWS Noorbagh Housing Colony, the Minister said. “Besides, 162 plots of different sizes in different colonies of Bemina are reserved for SDA employees which are presently subjudice,” he added.
“In addition 12 plots at Sumerbug reserved for rehabilitation of Schuntikhul dwellers and 9 plots at Noorbagh reseverved for rehabilitation of River Jhelum Dwellers. About 200 plots are under development in housing colony Kathua of J&K Housing Board,” the Minister added.
