Lal Singh to teachers; encourage students to preserve environment

KATHUA: Forest Minister Ch. Lal Singh  today called on teachers and school managements  to lead from the front in inculcating the habit of preserving natural ecosystems among students by undertaking plantation and active conservation drives in schools and their close vicinities.

“This will surely make students a valuable workforce to safeguard environment” the minister asserted during a function at Jawahar Navodhya Vidyalaya in Basohli today.

While appreciating plantation  of over 1000 fruit and ornamental plants by Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) authorities in the school premises, the Forest Minister said JNV Basohli has set an example by taking up massive tree plantation drive. He said others schools should also follow the trend and start such  plantation drives with active community participation.

Highlighting the importance of tress, he said Forest Department has prioritise the task of saving green wealth of the state for which massive workforce has been mobilised for demarcation, fencing etc.

“On the other hand array of fruit and ornamental varieties have been planted during this monsoon season” he added.

Ch. Lal Singh also inspected the school building, hostel and mess, directed school authorities to take up repair and necessary renovation. He also announced two hand pumps for school to cater to the needs of drinking water of students.

A colourful cultural programme  was also presented by the schools students.

Earlier, Commissioner Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti H Q Noida, Vishawjeet Kumar Singh gave a detailed account of the initiatives taken up for strengthening infrastructure of the school. He said a separate dormitories for girls and boys is coming up while funds for boundary wall and Volleyball court will be released soon.

Others present on the occasion were DC Chandigarh Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (CNVS) S.P Kour Sidhu, A.C CNVS Capt Teena Dhir, CCF S. F. A Geelani, Joint Director Forest Protection Force Khwaja Qamar Din, ADC Basohli, SDPO Basohli,  SDM, and DFOs.
