JAMMU, July 21: Former MP from Kathua-Udhampur-Doda constituency Ch Lal Singh today declared to quit Congress Party alleging that the former Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad back-stabbed him during Lok Sabha polls as his name was almost finalized as candidate from this constituency by the party high command.
Addressing a press conference here today along with his wife Kanta Andotra ( Ex-MLA), the two time MP Ch Lal Singh raised serious allegations against Mr Azad and announced his resignation from the party. He alleged that Azad forced him to quit the party and stabbed him in the back.
“I am quitting Congress because of Ghulam Nabi Azad and now have decided to contest Assembly elections from Basohli constituency of Kathua district, either Independent or after joining any other party,” Mr Singh said.
“I was feeling suffocated in Congress, especially after Azad ditched me,” Ch Lal Singh said adding that Azad played vital role in cancellation of his ticket from Udhampur seat.
Not only this, he manipulated things, when Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi assured him of MLC seat. Singh alleged that Azad has caused much damage to Congress in the State than anybody else. He further alleged that the humiliating defeat in Lok Sabha polls in recently concluded polls is only due to Azad and now results are in front the party and the public.
Former MP also disclosed that he will be contesting from Basohli, however, he didn’t disclose the future plans to join any national or regional political party. But sources close to him maintained that Lal Singh is likely to join PDP shortly.
