Lal Singh emphasizes on conserving water resources

KATHUA, Mar 17: To overcome scarcity of drinking water in and around Hatli village of Basholi constituency, Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology, Choudhary Lal Singh today inspected Water Supply Scheme at Gunni and directed the concerned officers to provide safe potable drinking water to the people of the area.
While inspecting the Water Supply Scheme, Lal Singh examined the condition of the filtration plant besides the water source and was briefed about the main features of the scheme and the areas to be fed by the scheme in the region.
Reiterating Government’s resolve in providing clean drinking water to all the areas, Lal Singh said that painstaking efforts are taken by the Government in completing all schemes including those which were pending and were at various stages of completion.
The Minister asked the officers to monitor works of all other major and minor water supply schemes of the area and ensure their completion at an earliest. He further directed to conduct fresh surveys to identify uncovered habitations for ensuring uninterrupted water supply to the people of water stressed areas.
Terming leakage of water as a major hurdle in providing sufficient supply to every household, the Minister directed the Engineers of PHE Civil as well as Mechanical Wing to work in tandem to plug these leakages so that more areas can get PHE water supply. He further directed the concerned officers to regularly monitor the duties assigned to the field staff so that people of village Hatli, Dukht, Pukht, Gunni, Barighat, Rasoo and Sarthan can avail the benefits of Gunni WSS.
Stressing on the need to conserve natural water bodies, Lal Singh directed ACD Kathua to prepare a plan by involving Forest Department to conserve all the ponds and natural water resources of the area so that water level can be recharged besides the preserved water can be used in extreme summer season.
