LEH, Aug 29: Initiating first of its kind welfare initiative, the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, today opened Hindustan Petroleum’s filling station on Leh-Manali road at Choglamsar.
The pump was inaugurated by Driggung Skabgon Cheychang Rinpochey in a simple but impressive function in Leh, attended among others by Chief Executive Councilor, Rigzin Spalbar, Executive Councilors and Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Simrandeep Singh.
This is the first Government pump opened by a civil department of the Government. So far in J&K, the Police Department is the only one which has several pumps running all over the State.
The opening of the filling station is considered as first of its kind welfare initiative as the profits from this petrol pump would be utilized by the LAHDC for treatment of needy patients, scholarships for bright but poor students etc. A governing council headed by the CEC of Leh will take decisions regarding the utilisation of profits on case to case basis, whereas an executive council headed by DC will run the routine business of the pump.
Speaking in the function, the Deputy Commissioner, Leh highlighted that the Leh administration took inspiration from the Police Department which runs these pumps for the welfare activities of PWWA and the Police Parivar. As such, seeing the huge scope of the business in Leh, steps were initiated with HPCL to set up the pump.
Earlier, Senior General Manager, HPCL Manish Tondon said that efforts will be made to open this quality and quantity based petrol pump for public from September 15 this year.
