JAMMU, Aug 20: Bishnah police arrested a lady for defaming her next door neighbour through fake Facebook (FB) account.
According to SP Headquarters Jammu Farooq Qaiser, on June 26 this year, a complaint was received by Bishnah Police from a lady complainant hailing from Bishnah town to the effect that she had recently been engaged and was about to get married in a few months time.
“However soon after her engagement, the complainant’s fiancé started getting messages from a fake Facebook account leveling baseless allegations upon her thereby injuring her reputation and defaming her”, he said.
Acting over the complaint, a case under FIR Number 96/19 under section 67-A IT Act and 506 RPC was registered at Police Station Bishnah and investigation started.
During the course of investigation, the matter was taken up with Facebook Inc. USA through SSP Operations Jammu and on the basis of report obtained from the concerned authorities at Facebook, the Facebook Account holder was identified as Shabnam Devi, daughter of Darshan Lal of Ward Number 1 Bishnah, SP said, adding that a team from Bishnah Police Station led by SHO Inspector Deepak Pathania arrested Shabnam Devi.
“The mobile phone used to create the Facebook account was also recovered from her possession and was seized in the case”, Qaiser added.
During the course of investigation, it was established that the Shabnam Devi was first door neighbour and classmate of the complainant, SP said, adding that the complainant was a bright student who did well in her studies while the accused Shabnam Devi was not good at studies and repeatedly failed in different exams which made her develop jealousness towards the lady complainant.
Due to jealous, the accused lady opened a fake Facebook account and started sending objectionable and vulgar messages to the fiancé of the lady complainant in an attempt to spoil complainant’s reputation and break her engagement, SP Farooq Qaiser said, adding that the accused Shabnam Devi has been kept at Police Station Women Cell, Jammu and will be produced before the court.
