Ladakh UT lists conditions for 10 pc reservation in EWS category

JAMMU, Mar 3: The Union Territory Administration of Ladakh today released office memorandum for 10 percent reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) for direct recruitment in civil posts and services under the administration of the UT.
“The persons belonging to EWS who are not covered under the scheme of reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Actual Line of Control will get 10 percent reservation in direct recruitment in civil posts and services under the administration of Union Territory of Ladakh,” an official order issued today by the Social and Tribal Welfare Department of Ladakh, said.
The defined criteria of income and assets for Economically Weaker Sections include the persons who are not covered under the scheme of reservation for SCs, STs and Socially and Educational Backward Classes, whose family has gross annual income below Rs 8 lakh and whose family does not possess other assets as specified.
The persons whose family owns or possess five acres of agricultural land and above, residential flat of 1000 square feet and above, resident plot of 100 square yards and above in notified Municipalities and residential plot of 200 square yards and above in areas other than the notified Municipalities, shall be exclude from being identified as Economically Weaker Sections, irrespective of the family income, the UT Ladakh administration order said.
The income shall include income from all sources i.e. salary, agriculture, business, profession etc for the financial year prior to the year of application, the order read.
It said the benefit of reservation under Economically Weaker Sections can be availed upon production of an Income and Asset Certificates issued by a competent authority.
It mentioned the competent authorities as District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, Sub Divisional Magistrate and Tehsildar.
“The competent authority shall scrutinize the application and conduct such enquiries as may be necessary for verification of details of the applicant with regard to eligibility of the applicant for the certificate claimed by him/her,” the UT Ladakh order said.
It may be mentioned here that after the harsh winter is nearing over, the Union Territory of Ladakh administration has started advertisement of vacancies in the Government departments. A number of vacancies have recently been referred to the Staff Selection Commission.
Recruitment of vacancies was a long pending demand of various political parties, organizations, unemployed youth and student bodies of Ladakh for which they had also started agitation prompting the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and Ladakh administration to intervene and advertise vacancies.
