SRINAGAR, Nov 5: Students of University of Ladakh in Leh staged a protest demonstration in the campus demanding proper facilities including electricity and heating system in the girls hostel.
Sources said, the girls wrapped themselves in blankets in shivering cold conditions, gathered in the Taru Campus in Leh were shouting slogans against the university administration demanding uninterrupted electricity, water and heating system to make it available in the hostel.
A student on anonymity said they have approached the University authorities several times for the redressal of grievances, but their deaf ears failed to deliver.
“How could we study in such cold conditions when the temperature is running several degrees minus during the day and night”, said a student. It is now a month we are facing unbearable problems and University authorities are not taking any heed, he added.
Although the heating system is available in the University campus, there is no facility in girl’s hostel whatsoever, said another student. “We are shivering during the night in the cold without electricity and heating, the water is coming at its own will, making life miserable in the hostel”, she added.
Dozen of male students had also joined their female counterparts during the demonstrations demanding resolution of their demands.
