LEH, Dec 27: Two-month old Union Territory of Ladakh is ready for a new era as Losar marks the beginning of a new year.
This was stated by Lieutenant Governor Ladakh Radha Krishna Mathur on the occasion of Losar – Ladakhi new year celebration at Chowkhang Vihara today. Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor LAHDC Leh Gyal P Wangyal, Commissioner/ Secretary Rigzin Samphel, President LBA PT Kunzang, other dignitaries, and the general public of Ladakh in large number were also present.
Lt Governor was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Chowkhang Vihara with all the auspicious marks followed in Ladakhi tradition.
Lt Governor greeted the people of Ladakh on Losar and spoke highly of their common nature of striving together, their deep faith in communal harmony, sense of giving back to the society what they have received from it, and a genuine smile on their face.
“Fulfilling of the long pending demand of the people of the land in the form of UT paves a pathway for equality, prosperity, and development,” said the Lt Governor who exhorted that everyone needs to work together in creating a better future for the coming generation. It is the right time to grab the opportunity to shape Ladakh making it socially strong, culturally rich, economically prosperous, and ecologically wealthy, added the Lt Governor.
Pertinently, Losar is being celebrated as the Losar Festival of the people of Ladakh on such a large scale for the first time. It was organized by the Ladakh Buddhist Organisation in collaboration with the Departments of Tourism and Culture.
Glimpses of auspicious Losar traditions of Chuchot, Choglamsar, Heshuk, Nimoo, Basgo, and Wanla villages made the event colourful and nostalgic.
