Ladakh development is reality now

Ladakh celebrated its Foundation Day along with National Unity Day with much fanfare with celebrations starting with run for unity, food stalls by SHG and various departments with LG RK Mathur as Chief Guest. Three years down the line, it is indeed a big moment of pride for every individual of Ladakh as they can see now their dreams fulfilled, ushering a new age of development in every sphere of their lives. Honoring Ladakh’s commitment towards its environment and ecology, PM Modi gifted 7.5 GW solar-based power project to make Ladakh carbon neutral. Ladakh was devoid of even basic infra like Tehsil offices, RTO office, Primary Health Centres, Community Health Centres, tertiary hospitals, substations/transmission lines, skill development centre, BDO offices, Common Facilitation Centres , panchayat ghar and even parks at certain places. LG Mathur laid e-foundation stones for many such infra projects wherever required along with museums at heritage sites at Hanley and Bodh Kharbu; installation of the astronomical telescope at Punguk in Hanley; 30-bedded hospital at PHC Tangtse; construction of 6.3 MVA, 66/11 KV Receiving Station at Namsuru, Mangbour and 66 KV transmission line from Kargil GIS Station to Lalung Substation; the construction of 33/11 KV 3.15 MVA at Henachi, Nubra; distribution of telescopes and dark sky lights to beneficiaries of Hanley; launch of School Enterprise Resource Planner to facilitate digital records and school management systems in Government schools across Ladakh; inauguration of Liquid Nitrogen Plant in Kargil and strengthening of EPF Farm Padum; inauguration of 175 nomadic pre-fabricated houses for nomads of Changthang; inauguration of Block Development Office/Block Development Council offices at Drass, Bhimbat, Shargole, Lotchum, Taisuru and Karsha; inauguration of Common Facilitation Centres (CFCs) at Samrah, Tumail and Faroona, CFC/ Panchayat Ghar at GM Pore and Zanskar and Public Park at Barsoo, all these projects/schemes inaugurated/foundation stone laid in a single day.
Every district’s far off places have benefited from the skew of measures and much appreciated by the galaxy of officials, political leaders, panchs and sarpanchs, Hill Council and Panchayats. Not only development but various laws of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir giving protections and safeguards are still in place to secure the identity and culture of Ladakh. On education front, establishment of first university after seven decades, a new medical college in Leh district and Ladakh is likely to get additional Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and may shift entire education to CBSE in future. Work on infrastructure projects like roads, tunnels, hydro-electric projects has gained pace and even the remotest border villages are now being connected to the telephone network and the internet through fiber-optic cables. The Colonel Chewan Rinchen Bridge got completed by the BRO in a record time of one month and 82-meter Span motorable bridge over river Shayok at Rongdo in Nubra has also been opened for the public. Ladakh Greenhouse project targeted to increase the availability of vegetables throughout the year and Culture Tourism along with eco-tourism and ecological activities like bird watching, wildlife safaris, all are in pipeline.
Ladakh started from a scratch but now sky is the limit and every effort is being made to fill the gap to compensate for the lost decades. Gone are the days of darkness with no university, least infra, no medical facilities, road connectivity issues, communication setup, almost negligible presence in official circles so much so that now officers from J&K and AGMUT cadre are deputed to fill up the vacancies. Vacant posts will be filled up in the next one year providing numerous opportunities to the youth. To make Ladakh one of the top Union Territories in the country is no more a dream only but a reality now.
