NEW DELHI, Mar 9: A delegation of Ladakh Contractor Association led by Thupstan Chhewang Member of Parliament call on Uma Bharti, Union Minister for Water Resources and River Development, Government of India in her Parliamentry Office in New Delhi.
The delegation requested her to release the funds of Rs 45 crore for the 5 ongoing Flood Management Projects Schemes of Ney Basgo Nallah, Phyang Nallah, Saboo Nallah, Igoo Nallag, of Nimmo Nallah in District Leh which were destroyed by the Flood Flash in 2010.
The meeting was attended by R K Mathur, Commissioner and C Lal, Joint Secretary, (Flood Management), and Joint Secretary, Minor Irrigation, Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India.
In the meeting, MP Ladakh complained about the delayed submission of the proposal for release of funds for the above schemes by the previous J&K Government to Central Government and initiated action only at this last stage that too on our persistent persuasion.
Catching the personal attention of the Minister MP Ladakh said, “It is my apprehension that a large number of Contractors of Leh District may suffer financial losses and uncertainty if the full amount of Rs 4500 Lacs projected for the Financial Year is not released”.
After giving her patient hearing to the delegation and discussion with the Commissioner and Joint Secretaries, Uma Bharti issued instructions to the concerned authorities to release Rs 26 crore immediately on priority basis.
The delegation comprised of Tonyot Tashi Executive Member, Thupstan Rinchen, Executive Member and Rigzin Angchuk Member of the Ladakh Contractor Association.
