3 militants arrested in Handwara

SRINAGAR, Aug 4: A non-local labourer was killed and two others injured in a grenade blast in Gadoora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district this evening.
Police said that militants hurled grenade on outside labourers at Gadoora area of Pulwama.
“In this incident, one labourer died and two others were injured,” police said. “Area cordoned off. Further details shall follow.”
The deceased labourer has been identified as Mohammad Mumtaz son of Mohammad Jaloo of Sakwa Parsa, Bihar. The injured have been identified as Mohammad Arif son of Mohammad Aziz and Mohammad Majbool son of Mohammad Arif, residents of Rampor, Bihar. Both are undergoing treatment and are out of danger,” police added.
The area has been cordoned off and massive manhunt has been launched against the militants responsible for the attack.
This is second attack since last evening. Last evening militants fired at a police party in Aloochi Bagh aera of Srinagar but there was no loss of life or injury.
“Strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack on labourers in Pulwama. My sincere condolences to the family of Mohd Mumtaz in this hour of grief. Praying for the early recovery of injured. I assure the people that those behind this despicable attack will not go unpunished,” Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha tweeted after Pulwama attack.
Meanwhile, police today arrested three militants along with arms and ammunition at Fruit Mandi crossing in Handwara area of Kupwara.
A police spokesman today said that a joint parties of police, Army’s 21 RR and 92 battalion of CRPF were conducting naka checking at Fruit Mandi Crossing at Handwara.
“During checking, the joint parties apprehended three persons, who had attempted to flee the spot on seeing the checking parties,” he said.
The spokesman said on personal search, arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession, including one pistol, one pistol magazine, seven pistol rounds and two grenades.
He said that the preliminary investigations revealed that the individuals were tasked to carry out militant attacks in Handwara, cause loss of life and injuries to the public and to disrupt peace in the area.
“The timely and swift action by the security forces has prevented the militants from carrying out the attack. They have been identified as Manzoor Ahmed Kumar son of Aziz Kumar resident of Sagipora and Showkat Ahmed Bhat son of Mushtaq Ahmad, resident of Khanu Babagund,” he said.
A case (FIR No. 213/2022 u/s 13 UAPA and 7/25 Arms Act) has been registered at Police Station Handwara and investigation initiated.
