Labourer dies under mysterious circumstances; relatives protest

JAMMU, Jan 15: A labourer died under mysterious circumstances in Sainik Colony area.
However, the family members and relatives of the deceased held protest and blocked the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway levelling allegation against a person of killing the victim.
As per police sources, a man identified as Sanjay Sharma and a labourer namely Shoki Lal, a resident of Madhya Pradesh, at present Sainik Colony had some altercation over installation of light.
The labourer later died under mysterious circumstances.
As the news of the death spreads, the family members and relatives of the deceased assembled near Sainik Colony and held protest.
Demanding justice and immediate arrest of the alleged accused Sanjay Sharma, the protestors blocked the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Pathankot Highway.
“My father has been killed by Sanjay Sharma. Who will feed us as my father was the lone bread earner. We need strict action against the Sanjay Sharma”, daughter of the victim alleged.
“Shoki Lal was my brother-in-law and was allegedly killed over some light installation issue by Sanjay Sharma”, he said.
On getting information, police team rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors by assuring them of fair probe into the matter. On the assurance, the protestors dispersed peacefully.
After conducting autopsy by the Board of Doctors at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu, the body of the deceased was handed over to legal heirs for last rites.
However, inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPC have been initiated by Channi Himmat Police to ascertain the exact cause of death.
