Labour Unions hold protest against highway authorities

KATHUA, Oct 6: Labour Unions under the banner Kammgar Mazdoor Union held protest against the highway authorities for not engaging local labourers.
A large number of labourers from various Labour Unions assemble in front of DC office Complex here and held protest.
Labour Union leaders namely Mohinder Pal, Raj Kumar, Jeevan Lal and Randhir Singh widely condemned the discrimination with local labourers for not engaging them in work.
They said that constriction works on Jammu-Pathankot National and Delhi-Katra Super Highway is going on and the concerned agencies are not engaging the local labourers for the work.
“The labourers from other states were being given work”, they said, adding that local unemployed youth are perfect in labour as well as technical works.
“As per law, the priority should be given to local people”, they added.
The leaders appealed the Labour Department to ask the construction agencies to engage local people in the construction work. They also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner Kathua.
With a warning to intensify their protest, the protesting labourers dispersed.
