LA to discuss ex-COA issue today

SRINAGAR :  Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly (LA) will today debate on recent revelations by former Chief of the Army (COA) that politicians, including ministers, were being paid from special Army fund since 1947.

Business advisory issued by the Assembly said the debate on the revelations will be held at 1500 hrs.

The debate was initially fixed for Saturday in the second half.

However, it was deferred as members from Jammu informed the Speaker Mubarak Gul that they wanted to go to their home town to celebrate Navratra festival with their families.

The Jammu members, including from Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and National Panthers Party (NPP) were supported by members from the Kashmir valley.

They refused to the meeting despite the Speaker suggesting that debate be started and later extended till Monday.

However, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Communist Party of India (M) supported Jammu members and requested the speaker to fix Monday for the discussion.

The ruling National Conference (NC) has moved a privilege motion against General Singh and demanded that he be brought in the House for questioning.

About 15 members of the NC, including some ministers have signed the motion.

Besides opposition PDP, the Communist Party of India (M) member Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami and Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) member Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen have also moved motion against General Singh in the House.
