SRINAGAR, Jan 1: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Pulwama conducted 123 training programmes for the practizing farmers/farm women, rural youth and extension personnel of the district during 2012.
In a press release, Programme Coordinator, KVK Pulwama, Tabasum Ara said that front line demonstrations were laid over an area of 102.73 ha on the crops like paddy, maize, oil seeds, oats and pulses for popularization of university released varieties during the last year. The programme coordinator said that 14 on farm trials (OFTs) were laid for the technology assessment and refinement to overcome the problems faced by the farmers.
The programme coordinator said that seven apple orchards in Renzipora and a pear orchard in Konibal (Pampore) were selected for training and pruning on scientific guidelines under the technical expertise of the KVK so that other farmers will follow the same procedure in maintaining their orchards.
The programme coordinator said that KVK Pulwama is running a project ‘National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture’ in the Drubgam village with the sponsorship of CRIDA Hyderabad. Under this project KVK has installed one mini weather station for recording of various weather parameters like rainfall, wind speed and direction and soil temperature in the adopted village.
