SRINAGAR, Jan 13: Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies, University of Kashmir (KU) did not allow scores of aspiring scholars to sit in entrance examination for M.Phil/Ph.D Programme.
The Varsity’s Faculty of Commerce and Management Studies came out with advertisement in 2014 and accepted online application forms for allied subjects including M.Com and MCA, but at the time of entrance they were not allowed to sit in exams.
The KU authorities in a statement invited applications from the students including those having degree in allied subjects with more than 55 percent marks for the admission in M Phil/Ph.D Programme, but at the time of entrance didn’t allow them to sit in the exams.
The agitating students told Excelsior that the authorities first kept option open for allied subject degree holders and accepted their online forms. “We also deposited examination fee and received receipt from the concerned authorities,” they added.
The students said that they were shocked to know that the Varsity has advised candidates to approach their respective/parent departments of the University for pursuit of M Phil/Ph D Programme.
The students alleged that they smell foul in the whole examination process. “We demand an independent enquiry from the university authorities in the matter,” the students said, adding, the university has wasted their precious one year.
Prof S Mufeed Ahmad, Director, Business School told EXCELSIOR that the department’s screening committee has taken the decision for not entertaining the allied subject degree holders into the entrance.
He said, the screening committee has taken the decision after realizing its consequences in the future. “We have separate departments for MCA, M Com and also for MFC, and it can become problematic for these students in the future,” he said, adding there was a possibility that their departments can also raise queries about their selection in his department.
He also said: “They can pursue their studies in their parental departments, so, why to entertain them in our department,” he said.
