SRINAGAR, Feb 4: Residents in a Srinagar locality on the Jhelum river embankment are living under constant fear as the Government has not filled the breach that occurred due to the last year’s floods.
Residents of Kursoo, Rajbagh said that the breach in bund is giving them sleepless nights as land erosion is continuously going in it which has posed threat to their houses.
“The Government has not repaired this portion of the bund despite our repeated requests to them. We fear we might be buried alive anytime if the bund further erodes,” said Mohammad Yousuf, a resident.
He said all the houses have developed cracks and threat of collapsing of these houses looms large over them.
“We fear that increase in water level in summer may wash all the houses in the area,” he said.
The residents warned that if their genuine demands are not redressed on priority they would come on roads.
Rohit Kansal, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, told Excelsior that he would send officials on to the spot to assess the situation and then accordingly direct the Flood Control Chief Engineer to redress the problem.
